Two Elderly Drivers Injured, One Cited After Crash in Ethel

Two Lewis County residents were injured Friday morning after a crash on U.S. Highway 12 in Ethel caused by a driver exiting a driveway into the eastbound lane of the highway, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Mildred E. Wood, 91, of Ethel, was cited on suspicion of entering an intersection that was obstructed by traffic, according to a release from the state patrol.

The crash was reported at 11:32 a.m. on Friday at milepost 73 of U.S. Highway 12 at the intersection with Tucker Road in Ethel. 

Wood was reportedly coming out of a driveway in a 1993 Dodge Dynasty when the vehicle entered the eastbound lane of the highway and was struck by a 2013 Kia Sorento driven by Patricia M. Paxton, 81, of Pe Ell. 

Both drivers were injured and transported to Providence Centralia Hospital for treatment. 

The crash was caused by inattention, according to the state patrol. Drugs or alcohol were not suspected to be a factor.
