Resident Arrested After Centralia Apartment Fire

By The Chronicle

A man was arrested Wednesday night after his second-floor Centralia apartment caught fire.

Kelsey T. Rasmussen, 19 , was arrested at 9:25 p.m. Wednesday by the Centralia Police Department on suspicion of first-degree arson. He was booked into the Lewis County Jail, according to jail records.

The fire was first reported at 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 1200 block of Windsor Avenue, according to a release from the Riverside Fire Authority.

Fire crews responded to the report of a fire in an upstairs unit of a duplex. When they arrived, they found the second floor windows were blackened and saw smoke coming from the residence’s roof vents. The downstairs unit was occupied at the time.

Firefighters used an exterior staircase to bring a hose up to the second floor and extinguished the fire, which caused “extensive” damage, according to the RFA.

The occupants of the first-floor unit evacuated safely, but have been displaced by the fire.

No injuries were reported. No further information was immediately available.
