Swift water rescue crews assisted two stranded kayakers on the Cowlitz River Saturday near Packwood, according to a report from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
The two men, a 44-year-old from Portland and a 45-year-old from Del Mar, California, were treated for possible hypothermia.
Sheriff’s Office search and rescue and swift-water rescue personnel responded at 4:04 p.m. Saturday to the La Wis Wis Campground outside Packwood after receiving a report of two men stranded on the riverbank after their kayaks overturned.
Rescue crews found no land routes to recover the men, so swift water crews organized an effort to pull them out of the water by crossing the river.
Personnel from Lewis County Fire District 10 treated the men for exposure symptoms.
