A home and garage on Alder Street just outside Pe Ell’s city limits was destroyed in a fire Wednesday afternoon.

Fire Chief Michael Krafczyk of Pe Ell’s Lewis County Fire District 11, commended firefighters from multiple agencies for preventing the fire from doing even more damage.

“It was sad the home was lost, but we could have lost three very easily,” he said.

The fire was first reported at 11:55 a.m., according to 911 dispatch records, in the 100 block of Alder Street in Pe Ell.

Firefighters responded and found a 1500 square-foot home and two-car garage fully involved in fire.

Crews immediately began fighting the fire defensively, preventing it from spreading to homes on either side, Krafczyk said.

The home was occupied, but the resident was not home at the time, he said.

In addition to Fire District 11, Fire Districts 6, 13, 16 the Department of Natural Resources and American Medical Response responded to the fire.
