A North Carolina man was arrested Sunday by officers who found him hiding in bushes after he allegedly jumped into a stranger’s car at a stoplight.
Jeffery E. Lane, 44, of Newport, North Carolina, was arrested and booked into the Lewis County Jail on suspicion of second-degree attempted vehicle prowl, according to the jail’s booking log.
At 12:31 p.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Interstate 5 in Centralia after a driver reported a man jumped into the passenger seat of their car while the vehicle was stopped at a light.
The suspect was later identified as Lane.
“The victim drove Lane a short distance and then told him to get out of his car,” according to the Centralia Police Department.
Lane was arrested after police found him hiding in bushes nearby.
