Man Lying in Road Struck, Killed on U.S. Highway 12 Near Montesano

A man reportedly lying in the road on U.S. Highway 12 about 4 miles east of Montesano was killed Friday after being struck by a passing vehicle, according to the Washington State Patrol.

The incident was reported at 10:52 p.m. at milepost 14 of westbound U.S. Highway 12.

According to a report from the State Patrol, a 55-year-old Aberdeen woman was driving west when she saw a vehicle, identified as a 2016 Land Rover, parked on the shoulder.

She began to merge into the left lane to avoid the vehicle and struck a man lying on the ground in the right lane.

The man in the road died at the scene and has been identified as Sergey L. Sokolov, 38, of Deer Park.

The incident was caused by Sokolov being in the road, according to the State Patrol. The incident is under investigation.

It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved.
