A man lost most of his right index finger Tuesday after an accident involving the discharge of a rifle in Centralia, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded Tuesday to Providence Centralia Hospital, where they contacted a 22-year-old man with a gunshot injury to his finger. According to the Sheriff’s Office, two-thirds of the finger had to be removed by medical staff due to the severity of the injury.
The man reported that the incident happened at about 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday in the 1600 block of Military Road in Centralia.
He was reportedly walking on his family’s property with a rifle. He stopped and placed the rifle against a tree, and when he picked it up later, he said it discharged and injured his finger, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
