A Level 3 sex offender convicted of rape recently registered to live at a Mossyrock address, according to the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office.
David John Vernon, 49, is required to register as a sex offender due to several convictions for sex offenses.
In 1994, he was convicted second-degree rape after being accused of sexually assaulting a girlfriend.
“Vernon also has an extensive history of convictions for sexual offenses that range from indecent exposure to indecent liberties with forced compulsion,” according to a press release from the sheriff’s office. “His victims have ranged from minor age females to adult senior age victims.”
Vernon’s most recent conviction was for two counts of voyeurism in 2009 in Lewis County Superior Court. He was accused of cutting a hole in portable toilet stalls and peeping into adjoining toilets while females used them.
He was seen by a victim in one case and confronted, according to the sheriff’s office.
He served 60 months in prison on the conviction. He is scheduled to be under supervision by the state Department of Corrections until June 2019.
“Because of the type of crimes involved in his original conviction and his continued criminal behavior, he presents a high risk to reoffend,” according to the sheriff’s office.
Vernon has registered to live in the 100 block of Swigert Road in Mossyrock. He is described as a white male with a bald head and blue eyes. He is 6 feet, 1 inch tall and weighs 285 pounds.
Vernon is not wanted by law enforcement. The sheriff’s office releases information when Level 3 sex offenders register at new addresses or as transients.
