‘Suspicious’ Fire Destroys Vacant Winlock Home

By The Chronicle

A fire late Saturday night that destroyed a vacant Winlock house is under investigation, Lewis County Fire District 15 Assistant Chief Kevin Anderson told The Chronicle Monday.

“The fire is suspicious in origin,” Toledo Police Chief John Brockmueller told the Winlock City Council Monday evening.

At 11:34 p.m. on Saturday, dispatchers received a report of a structure fire in the 900 block of Northwest Kerron Avenue in Winlock.

The fire was already fully-involved at the time of the report, Anderson said.

“It was a vacant, basically abandoned structure,” he said. “The home had been vacant for 10-plus years.”

Crews from district 15, as well as fire districts 2, 5 and 7, spent about four hours extinguishing the fire. The house is a total loss, but the structure is still standing, Anderson said.

Investigators are working to determine the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported and no other structures were threatened.
