Ethel Woman Arrested After Alleged Assault With Hammer

An Ethel woman is facing a felony assault charge after allegedly assaulting a man with a hammer Wednesday.

Hayley R. Smith, 29, of Ethel, was arrested on suspicion of second-degree assault. She is scheduled to make her first appearance in Lewis County Superior Court on the charge this afternoon.

Deputies from the Lewis County Sheriff’s Office responded at 7:44 p.m. Wednesday to the 100 block of Larmon Road in Ethel after receiving a report of an assault.

They arrived and were told the suspect swung a hammer at a 59-year-old Ethel man and hit him on the hip, according to the sheriff’s office.
