Crews Extinguish Fire in Boy’s Bathroom at Washington Elementary

A fire set in a boys’ bathroom at Washington Elementary School was extinguished Wednesday morning with minimal damage caused to the facility, according to the Riverside Fire Authority.

At 8:45 a.m. on Wednesday, RFA crews responded to the school in the 800 block of Field Avenue in Centralia.

The first-arriving engine found smoke coming from the boys’ bathroom and extinguished the fire.

Students and staff evacuated after the fire was discovered and stayed outside until smoke was cleared from the building. No injuries were reported.

Crews determined the fire was intentionally set. The Centralia Police Department is investigating.
