A Centralia man died after being hit by a car Saturday on Old Highway 9, according to the Thurston County Sheriff’s Office.
Thurston County Coroner Gary Warnock identified the victim as James Beesley, 28, of Centralia.
The incident was reported at 10:38 p.m. Saturday in the 20800 block of the highway near Rochester.
Lt. Tim Rudloff, with the Sheriff’s Office, said an 18-year-old woman driving on the highway hit the man. He said investigators do not believe the woman is to blame for the collision.
“It’s very dark in that section of the roadway,” he said. “She didn’t have any time to brake. She was going about 55 miles per hour, which is not unreasonable in that area.”
Rudloff said investigators do not know what Beesley was doing in the middle of the road.
The Sheriff’s Office is waiting for results of a toxicology report on the deceased, he said.
