A crudely drawn swastika was reported on Centralia City Light meter at the Centralia Train Depot on Saturday, according to Centralia City Light Manager M.L. Norton.
As of Monday morning, it was painted over by city crews.
This is the first time a swastika has been painted or drawn on a city meter, Norton told The Chronicle. Meters are regularly tagged with graffiti, some of which has been identified by the Centralia Police Department as gang related, Norton added.
The swastika was reported via email to Norton’s city e-mail account by CEO and Founder of Northern Pacific Digital Andrew Bacon on Saturday at 3:46 p.m., according to email messages. Norton said the office is closed over the weekend so he did not receive the email until Monday morning.
As soon as Norton saw the email, he said he dispatched city crews to paint over it within an hour.
