The cause of a brush fire Tuesday evening in the 2900 block of Cooks Hill Road in Centralia is under investigation, according to the Riverside Fire Authority.
RFA crews first responded at 5:40 p.m. to a report of a rapidly growing brush fire.
When the first crews arrived, they found a fire had burned an area of approximately 100 feet by 150 feet of tall grass and brush in an undeveloped lot.
Crews quickly extinguished the fire. A crew from the state Department of Natural Resources arrived to monitor the area and extinguish hot spots.
The cause of the fire is unknown, but witnesses in the area reported seeing and hearing fireworks before the fire started, according to the RFA.
