A fire Monday on Bishop Road south of Chehalis destroyed a barn containing approximately 5,000 bales of hay, according to a release from Lewis County Fire District 5.
Crews from Fire District 5 were first dispatched at 8:55 a.m. Monday to the fire in the 1900 block of Bishop Road.
First arriving crews were able to mostly confine the fire to the barn, which was completely destroyed. However, other buildings had some damage, according to Fire District 5.
In addition to District 5, Lewis County Fire Districts 2 and 6, and the Chehalis Fire Department responded.
Wind pushed much of the smoke from the fire to the Interstate 5 corridor from mileposts 72 through 74.
“The smoke may continue to linger in the area several days until the last of the materials are excavated from the scene,” according to a release from Fire District 5.
As of Tuesday, Fire District 5 units were still on scene monitoring the scene.
On Wednesday, smoke from the fire continued to linger in the area.
